Linda Silvas Mama Bear Baby Bear with Drums Because of the pitfalls caused by drug abuse and other destructive cycles, more and more grandparents and other relatives are finding themselves charged with the protection and upbringing of the children, our future generation. With masterful storytelling and a Pow Wow Drum performance, Linda Silvas tells a metaphorical tale of Baby Bear’s life with parents who partake of the forbidden Fruit (drugs and alcohol) rendering them unable to care for their baby or themselves. Mama Bear... Grandmother takes on the pivotal role of parent. The audience, "Silent Warriors" who have dedicated their careers and lives to keeping the Circle strong, will be honored and invited to play the drum. Linda Silvas “Little Tree” was born and raised in San Diego and is a member of the Acjachemen Nation, known as the Juaneno Band of Mission Indians, located on the California coast. In 1989, she relocated to the Pacific Northwest where she resides in a log home in Sequim, Washington. Her studio is located at the base of the Olympic Mountains (the “Cipmylo” Forest) where she writes and produces her own line of drums, original Native Art, the Mama Bear Baby Bear books and products, conducts drum workshops, and the “Circle of Drums.” Linda is internationally known for her creative use of natural elements in her designs, teaching how to make the drum and for her commitment to keeping the tradition of the Native Way alive. She gave birth to the story of “Mama Bear Baby Bear” through her own personal experience, which led to a magical, spiritual journey that has become so much more than just one book, more than just one story… for she believes that “We are all the connection in a full circle, the circle never ends.” |
